I am Katie, aka the fussy one. I pour my heart and soul into my work and have a keen eye for detail, hence the nickname.
As a child I was obsessed with hair and make up. I drove my mum mad drawing tattoos on dolls and giving them felt tip highlights, painting, cutting hair (the hairdo of every Barbie was different), and drawing on walls with my favourite tool – lipstick. I now see that was just my destiny, and this wild messy child was destined to choose a career using all her creative flair.
I trained in one of the leading salons in the area, where my Spanish boss had a unique and amazing style of cutting hair. He was a strict taskmaster who demanded nothing but the best, even down to insisting we only use a certain brand of scissors, and his old-school work ethic ingrained in me a deep respect for the trade and craft.
I went on to work for many happy years in two more salons developing my skills around wonderful teams of co-workers who helped me at every hurdle.
Then I decided to take a huge risk as a single mum, to work for myself – and Blushh was born when we opened our doors in 2011.
Over the past 16 years I have continued to develop my skills as a top stylist, specialising in hair-health as well as hair beauty, and training in Wella colour houses, tricology and balamin. My great interest is in corrective colour work (with blondes being an absolute favourite area), and in hair-loss which is a subject very personal to my family. That has fed into my work with hair extensions which add rich volume to normal hair, along with many solutions for clients with partial or total hair loss. I am passionate about my work, channelling good energy in a positive way in life and in business – and always looking on the bright side of life (good advice from grandma!)
The biggest loves of my life are my children, followed closely by hair. My dad believed that if you do something you love you’ll never work a day in your life, and you should never stop until you’re proud.
I believe everyone should look and feel their very best, so making this happen is not just a job for me, it is who I am.
